237K ps3's sold on top of the 4 million plus already there.... Yeah I'm totally stumped as to who bought all those copies!
My understanding from articles from isupply was that the ps3 was breaking even in august/september. Then Sony cut the price so of course they are losing money again on hardware but not anywhere near the extent they were at the start of the gen. I remember a sony executive (sorry about the vagueness) saying that Sony planned to become profitable on hardware sometime in 2010.

Demand wasn't as big as you were expecting maybe but to anyone who has a realistic interpretation of the market will see that the ps3 still sold really well. VgChartz did NOT reveal their numbers. They gave a preview based on early estimations. They release their Japan numbers usually on thursday.
Why the hate for VgChartz? They haven't even released their numbers yet!
It almost certainly edged the wii this week. Hardware next week will be interesting because the wii has seen a good super mario boost recently too.

True. Giving the game to more people in the west is a good thing. More people can see its greatness. IMO its quite selfish to think it should be exclusive (unless you are convinced it will affect the quality of the game.)
Having said that the ps3 (superior) version will still heavily outsell the 360 version.

You don't have talk alot of crap. Of course the ps3 is outselling the 360 in Europe but of course tehy are still stocking it.
I was actually in Spain 2 months ago and yes I saw many 360's in stores, albeit with a smaller shelf size than ps3 and a much smaller one than the wii.

It did well outselling the 360 by 170,000 last week according to these estimations.
Wii however is doing spectacular. I must laugh at the doom and gloom articles that have popped up about Nintendo.
I'm sick of having to add all the DS versions together to see if its beaten the wii every week!

Agreed that we can't get absolute accurate worldwide figures at the moment.
However the quarterly statistics given by the 3 companies will show how many consoles have been sold to retailers at least. These are true and accurate figures. I guess we will just have to wait.
(Eagerly anticipating the wii to outsell the NES anytime now)
